  1. If youre speaking of the packing peanuts, You can check with some of the privately owned mail centers like Mail Boxes Etc.  They should be open to taking it off your hands and at least re-using it.  They also sell the material to customers.

As far as the more solid, preformed items, I have no answer for that.

  2. No, there is no environmental way to discard Styrofoam.  Styrofoam takes up to 1,000,000 years to disintegrate in nature or practically never.  So, just think of it would never disintegrate.

It can be recycled though.  However, no one or company will do it.  It costs far more energy to produce new ones than recycle it.  That is the sad truth.

  3. If it has the recycle triangle on it then yes you can recycle it.

  4. Actually in most cases, you cannot recycle styrofoam - I've never seen one.

Your best bet - don't use it..........corn based plastic or even waxed paper is better.

  5. Styrofoam will eventualy degrade, but it takes a long time.

  6. On the bottom of styrofoam, you'll see the little triangle with a 6 in it, which means it can be recycled, however not all of it will be recycled, only a small percentage of it will. The higher the number means it's harder to recycle. For example, a triangle with a 1 in it is the easiest to recycle. If you just leave styrofoam out, it would take a million years for the styrofoam to decompose, so all in all, try not to use styrofoam.
