Is there an international or universal audible alarm signal to say you or your craft are in trouble..?

i've been checking the net all night and cant find an answer to this...

  1. SOS (--- ... ---) or continuous sounding of a horn;  also in the ColRegs ( follow the link given to the USCG ) is the 5 or more blasts of a horn signal to be used if uncertain of another boats intentions

    ( The famous WTF signal ).

    Three blasts on a horn means my engines are going astern ( I'm backing up or at least slowing down), not distress.

    Five short blasts followed by one  long means Abandon Ship.


  2. Blow the horn or whistle 3 or more times in a row or continuously.

    Other horn signals give specifics. but essentially if the horn or whistle is going theirs trouble.

  3. Get on the USCG web page http://www.uscgboating.org/  and ck but am sure its 3 blasts of any audible signaling device.
