Is there an old wives tale that states that the bridemaids dresses should not have white in them?

I've got a bridesmaid who has come to me saying that "bridesmaids should not wear white in their gown". Now I've been planning to put the bridesmaids in mostly black with white as a feature and for over a year no-one has said I couldn't do it. Is it an old wives tale that is no longer relevant?

  1. The tradition (etiquette?) is that guests should not wear white dresses to a wedding so as not to take away from the bride.  I've never heard anything about bridesmaids dresses.  But I cannot imagine any objection or old wives tale that does not allow any white in the bridesmaids dresses.  It's your big day.  Choose whatever dresses you like.
