Question:

Is there an online resource to find out whether one's American Airlines flight is on an MD-80 aircraft?

The MD-80 has experienced numerous flight delays in recent weeks. The AA website suggests finding out if one's flight is on an MD-80, but I can't find out where to get this information about particular flights. The call-in number is of no help.

Other advice welcome - like many, I've already reached the destination on a round-trip ticket, and I'd like to get better information on whether I'm likely to be able to take the scheduled flight back, given the many recent cancellations of MD-80 flights.

  1. It all depends on the airport you're using and the destination.

You should have included that info in your question.  Just about every airport has their own web site and most have complete information about every flight that they handle and what equipment is used for each flight.  Chances are if your flight is within the U.S. an MD80 is usually used.  According to the wikipedia article about AA MD80s,  "Most fly out of ORD, DFW, STL"  Chicago Dallas/FtWorth/Seattle(?).

  2. dunno

  3. Every airline lets you see the details about your flight through their website.  They will show you the type of airplane the flight is on.  Most people use this information to figure out what seat to get, etc.
