Is there an organic flea killer that works.

Question

I have 2 dogs and went on vacation. They were not at the house during this time and now my house has a lot of fleas in it. I live in FL so it is hot and sandy. I have tried all kinds of things outside but I need an organic or herbal flea killer to try. Thank you

Pyrethrin (not Permithrin) and rotonone are both organic and come in powder and spray forms.  The problem is you must retreat regularly.  (every other day for ten days to break the cycle should do it). They are quick kill with no residual control.    When you vacume suck up some fresh powder in your cleaner first to make sure any surviving fleas are killed.  Survivors can crawl back out, so bags should be changed or bagless ones dumped outside and contents disposed of.  

As a kid when we returned from vacation we would let the dog run through the house first.   The hungery fleas would jump on her and then she got a pennyroyal soap bath.  That reduced the problem.  Never use pennyroyal on a pregnant or nursing animal.  It has been linked to uterine contractions.

The borax idea is very useful, works for ants and roaches, too.   Also diatomacious earth works.

I use 1 to 2 tbs vinegar in there drinking water, and rub dryer sheets on them about 2 X's a week. I have never had a flea problem.

Sorry for leaving that out. I used baby powder to smother them. If you have small children make sure they are not in the same room when you put it down or when you sweep it up. It can can pretty dusty.  Leave the baby powder for at least 2 hrs. you will need to do this about 2 X's a week for a couple weeks. I am sure they probably sell organic stuff to kill them, but my son has severe asthma and I just don't trust them. I hope this helps.

I use borax...a  laundry booster and vacuum everyday.
