I can't seem to make myself fall asleep before about 3-4am even if i'm more then a little tired, and I now have really dark circles under my eyes and i'm getting sick from not being able to sleep... and I was wondering if there was any over the counter drug that i could take that would put me to sleep, and keep me asleep? I don't want anything addictive though.

  1. If you start taking Melatonin, your body will quit producing it, and you will become dependent on it.  I suggest some nighty nite tea or sleepy time tea.  If that doesn't help, you should probably consult a dr.

  2. Tylenol PM

but don't over do it or you'll be groggy all day long

  3. benadryl! ( or nyquil) it puts me out but i think you should ask your doctor if you can take those things if you have other prescription meds. that can interfier with it

  4. ALL sleep medications are addictive, with perhaps the exception of melatonin.

Don't drink coffee, juice or ice cream past 4:00PM!  This is the mistake most people make.

And to fall asleep, drink a glass of warm milk, then a glass of red wine, then spank your monkey - works every time!

  5. Melatonin. It's natural and it works pretty well.

  6. Benadryl.

  7. Benadryl.  It's the main ingredient in tylenol pm and the other pm drugs.  You can get a generic really cheap at walmart or a drugstore.  It's gentle and  not addictive.

  8. Melatonin is your best bet. Benedryl, Tylenol PM, etc. all have an antihistamine in them, which is the ingredient that makes you sleepy. But, Melatonin will help reset your body clock. Take it 1/2 before you want to go to bed. As always, if you have persistent insomnia, you should see your doctor. You may have some type of sleep disorder. Lack of sleep can mess with your whole body, never mind your brain.

  9. rescue remedy.. at walgreens... but i would try melatonin plus. its a vitamin for the skin but knocks me out.

  10. There are over the counter "Sleep aid" medications available.  Just ask at your pharmacy.   They are not as effective as prescription medications, but can really help.  There are also lots of other things you can do to help you fall asleep more easily.   Try reading about it.  And if those don't help, talk to your doctor.

  11. Instead of the over-the-counter medicines, why not try some of the home-remedies from here:

  12. you can use tylenol PM or just plane old Benadryl. Neither one are addictive
