Is there an "idiots guide "to tax credits or tax in general (UK) I mean really easy?

I find it extremely difficult to figure out what,if anything I am allowed.I work in healthcare for the NHS have one 7 year old daughter for whom we pay childcare fees, and a husband that also works for the NHS.I thought we were pretty bright people but I am so confused .Is it me or is it deliberately confusing??

    Basic rule: one child household income under 56,000 pa you qualify for some level of payment, above this you don't


  2. Yes, it's called the Citizens Advice Bureau - and trust me they won't think you're an idiot, just that you're normal (the tax / tax credit system is just so mad that even the tax man keeps on getting it wrong, so it can't be you).

  4. Phone them, it's much easier. They guild you through everything, just make sure you have everything you need ready including both yours and your husbands National Insurance numbers, P60's (which states how much you both earned and how much tax you paid) and the name and address of your childcare provider. You will also need to know the childcare providers 'registration' number which they will give u if you ask them. Then they will work out how much you are entitled to. Most families recieve something so it's well worth trying. Hope I helped.
