Cnet keep commenting in their reviews that various models should have dual freeview tuners, but none actually seems to.

  1. I wondered about this when I bought one recently, but in practice it is not actually needed.

You probably think you need two tuners, one to watch and one to record on... which is true, but they both don't need to be in the recorder, and probably better off if they arent. If your TV doesn't have a freeview tuner built-in, then just buy a cheap £15-20 one for tv... will save £££'s on the recorder you have to buy purely to get this tiny extra functionality... oh, and I couldnt find one either, stopped looking once I realised I didnt actually need one, though!

On the upscaling thing - you mean the 1080 upscaling? If so, then the Sony range, from 160gb up to 500gb I think, is pretty good. Got one recently and don't have a bad word to say about it.

zyxz0rys: yours is not not quite the same as DVDR HDD Freeview recorder (what a mouthful!), it does seem odd why they don't put the second tuner in them, but it seems they don't. There may be pricier models with it, but for £20 odd I think it is probably very easily got round.

To be totally honest, my TV has Freeview built-in and the EPG is much nicer than the HDD one, so it is a pleasure to use the non HDD one, not that the HDD one is bad... just not as nice looking (obviously there is a lot going on with the HDD and sometimes too much on screen!), which is why I don't mind not having two tuners in the HDD!

  2. I am confused, I thought most Freeview tuners with HDD were twin, like the ones on this site

    http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/freeview_...

the one I have is twin

I bought a twin so I can record one channel whilst watching another, I don't consider this "tiny extra functionality" as  I would miss most of my progs without it

Mine is a freeview box with hard drive

sorry I thought you were talking about freeview boxes

I would buy a freeview box with HDD and a cheap DVD recorder then you can transfer stuff to disc
