  1. Hi,

Neither of the above answers are totally correct, you can move away from BT, by choosing a company who offers line rental and calls combined.

This is part of Local Loop Unbundeling. This effectively means you will no longer get a bill from BT, but the line will still be maintained by BT Openreach. So you may still see a BT van if things go wrong.

The only other option, if you are in an area that has cable is to go with them, and leave SKY.

Moving to another suppler (cable excepted) will not increase your broadband speed at all, as the line in effect the same thing from the same exchange.

    I hope this helps?

  2. I use another provider for my phone line and calls, and at the same time I get sky for th TV. It works perfectly and I can assure you that the phone service provider is probably the best available in the UK today.

Their service is cheaper than BT, the customer service dept is excellent - you can speak to a person who speaks English, and when I had a line problem they kept in touch with me until BT Openreach sorted it out. Not only that they are the only phone company in the UK who require a signature on an application form before they will switch a new customer, their integrity is outstanding.

If you care to email me I will tell you how to get on their service.

  3. If you have Sky then why not switch to their Broadband and phone package if your area/line supports it. It uses your exisiting BT line but the calls are a cheaper and their internet service is faster and cheaper than BTs standard service.

Otherwise, there are many companies that can provide cheaper/better service than BT but using your existing BT line. Have a look at Talktalk and Sky for phone and internet packages, but avoid Tiscali and Orange broadband in my opinion.

  4. at the moment u have to have a bt line to serve any other phone packages as they own and maintain all the cables and rent them out to other companies such as sky and virgin as.They are in the process of having fibre optics installed for there use only,as soon as they do ill be changing mine as they regularly pee me off too!!!!
