Is there any 1080P TV looking good with standard definition programming?

Could any body pls recommend any 1080p HDTV, any brand, which can show decent standard definition cable or Sat programming? I have yet to find a 1080p which is without pixelation and cloudiness for SD channels. tks

1080P TVs don't do upconverting.  What you put into it is what you get out.  A 1080P DVD may do upconverting meaning that it can produce a better picture than what is put into it via interpolation but there aren't any TVs that I know of that do this.  On the other hand, there are TV stations that do upconverting of 480i content to 720P or 1080i such as TNT HD so that you get the benefit of viewing a program in HDTV format that was originally shot in analog.

In general, plasma HDTVs tend to handle SD programming better than the LCDs. It has to do with the difference in the display technology. Try looking at the Panasonic TH-42PZ80U. Also, 720p HDTVs definitely look better with SD programming than any 1080p HDTVs. I have seen this in side-by-side comparisons time and again.

Additional Details: All HDTVs MUST & DO up-convert a SD program (480i) or a 720p HD program to its native resolution (1080p). If it did not it would be useless since over 90% of the digital broadcasts are NOT1080i and NO one broadcasts 1080p!!!!!!!!!

Carlton W doesn't appear to have any clue what he is talking about.  and jacob shouldn't have wasted money on getting an xbr5 it cost much more than the xbr4 but isn't much better. ( not to mention the fact that the samsung 650 series cost less than an xbr4 but has specs close to an xbr5).  Buy a plasma tv if your planning on getting one that is "40" or larger, if not buy an lcd.

i have a sony xbr 5 and it have pretty good sd picture and amazing 1080p picture well above the rest of 1080p tv's  also the smaller the screen the better sd picture you get so i would go with samsiung or a xbr series sony not any sony is good just the xbr series
