Why don't more musicians make their music in 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound? Can anyone send me a link to some of this music? I know it exists, I've heard it once before, lol it's like a myth or something. I just bought a pair of surround sound headphones and I have them running in 7.1 surround sound. They work ridiculously good in Counter Strike, and also when I watch DVDs.

  1. Pretty much every CD is recorded in digital by major aritsts. Digital is 5.1 studio recording. 7.1 needs DDSEX or DDX ( Dolbey digital extra)

It's not so much the recording disk, its the setting you have selected on your A/V tuner.  I mostly have it set to digital pro-logic.  When you either purchase a CD at a store or web based sale, look at the cover descrip to see what formats and studio sets the audio was recorded in. Not unlike a DVD. Dolby digital or surround recorded movies doesn;t compare to DTS ( Digital Theater Sound ) or DTSX or THX and now Blue ray blows them all away if you have an HDMI cable connection.  HDMI will also transfer superior audio signal splits between your CD player and A/V tuner. Try that and liston to what happens.

  2. There is DVD Audio and SACD recodings. They are a different format and you need a special standalone player or PC hardware/software to read them. I think DVD Audio can be read if you have a DVD Rom drive and a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card. I don't think you can do SACD on a computer.

  3. I'm not sure how many musicians re-master originals into surround.  But here's a link below that might get you started.  I know that SACD's, DVD-Audio, and even DTS audio are in surround.  I have Metallica's black album in DVD-Audio, along with Disturbed and a Faith Hill album.  And The Eagles' When h**l Freezes over in DTS. All of which sound really good.

I think the reason it isn't so widespread is because it's time consuming to do remasters in surround and the expense of it too.  Also, with the tech of newer receivers coming out, a lot of them can be processed exceptionally well into surround and give seperation through your speakers, even if the recording was done in stereo.
