  1. why don't you call citibank here in korea and ask them whoch branch you can go to withdraw USD from their ATMs.

  2. Why not just get travelers checks? you can cash those anywhere. FOr example the hotel... the bank.. its easier. and if you lose the travelers checks you can always get them replaced. Besides even if they do have ATms there for you... they will charge you a fee for withdrawing money from out of the country. I dont' think its worth the money whne you could be spending it eating or on some clothes.

  3. If you can get someone to sign you onto one of the military bases (such as Yongsan Army Post in Seoul or Osan Air Base in Songtan) you can go to the bank there and can withdraw US dollars.  Otherwise, it's not possible.

Any IBK branch (at an actual bank branch - not just a stand-alone ATM somewhere) has ATMs with Enlish-language menus and are very easy BUT, any cash you withdraw will be in Won, not in Dollars.  To get dollars, walk into the branch and you can then purchase dollars.  You'll be required to show your passport at that time.

  4. Unfortunately for you, the ATM machines here in South Korea are not programmed to dispense any currencies other than South Korean Won.

To obtain U.S. Dollars, you would need to physically visit a Bank where you are to obtain U.S. Dollars.

Also, it's possible that when you cash Travelers Checks for U.S. Dollars, the Bank Management will require you to fill-out paperwork attesting as to who and what the U.S. Dollars are for and what for.

(Please note I said possible and not required)

South Korea stockpiles huge amounts of U.S. Dollars in their Banking system; they are quite "miserly" when wanting to sell them.

(The South Korean Government must have relatives related to "Scrooge McDuck")
