We need help and advice for an Emergency Wedding in the PI as we are planning to have a garden wedding on 20th October 2007. What are the actual requirements you prepared?

  1. I m not British but I am a foreigner who married a Filipina in Manila.

First you need a certificate of no impediment to marriage. This is just a stat dec you fill out at your embassy saying you have never been married before (divorce is not recognized in the Philippines).

Then comes the approval of her parents. If she is under 21 you will need written approval from her father or legal guardian. If she is 21-26 you need a written acknowledgement from her father that he has been notified (it pretty much still amounts to needing his permission).

Then you need to apply for a marriage license. Go to your local city or barangay hall for this. Alternatively you can hire a lawyer to do it for you (if you want a good lawyer in Manila leave your email address and I will send you mine's details).

Next you have to attend a course in how to be married. You can get out of this with a bribe of about 2000 pesos (about 22 pounds).

Then just book a judge through your city hall (he will expect an honorarium of about 2000 pesos).

You will need two adult witnesses who are not your or her parents.

Next thing you know you are married and Robert is your father's brother!

Any other questions just ask - I will check back tomorrow.
