  1. Nobody knows for sure - or rather, I'm quite sure there are at least -trace- amounts of gold. But if there's anything more than that, we don't yet have the technology to tell from this distance and have yet to send any unmanned probes with the purpose of finding out.

  2. No, not much at all, gold is a heavy metal. The Moon formed out of a glancing blow by a Mars sized planetoid body which only sheared off the upper part of Earths sphere.

It was found by the Apollo missions (yes they really did happen) that returned surface rocks to Earth that it comprised largely of silicates and the like which are relatively light elements.

Most of the heavier metals like gold, Iron uranium and the like in the more central part of the young Earth either was not sheared off or if any of it was, probably fell back to Earth as the Moon slowly coalesced into a solid body from a red hot sphere of swirling materials.

This seems to be the only plausible explanation for the observed mineral composition and the cool temperature of the Moons interior, despite its size.

No significant seismic activity was found on the Moon, suggesting that no hot central core of radioactive heavy metals exists, which it would if the Moon was formed like the Earth.

The core of the planetoid which would contain such metals would have become part of the Earth during that collision as both had formed quite recently before that happened.

That's maybe why the Americans never went back, because there were no goldmines or back gold there to be had (thank goodness).

Oh I forgot,to say Waverly made a very good point about plate tectonics bringing these heavy metals to the surface as they do on Earth, but no such tectonic actiity is observed, only the Heavy Bombardment period about 4 billion years ago, and the Light Bombardment between 3-4 billion years ago have affected the surface with surface tension cracks (rilles and some valeys and domes), and the mares (known as seas), like the sea of tranquility contain volcanic lava from deeper down, but these are almost entirely made of Basalt.(Again obtained in that fake visit in 1969).

Who is that ******** who gives everbody the thumbs down no matter what you say here, I would like to meet him face to face and give him a Heavy Bombardment.

  3. It is unlikely. There is less pressure on the moon due to is reduced mass and gravity. On earth tectonic plate and volcanic activity permit gold to be separated from a mass of crust and concentrated in seams as ore (the mother lode). Again on the moon there likely was far less tectonic and volcanic activity to duplicate the earth process. Does that make sense? The element (gold) is likely present in the moon's crust but not the powerful earth mechanism to make a lot of it.

Don't worry, if it's  there you are not gonna find it.

  4. Even if it is there, the cost of bringing it here would be a hundred times (even if you pick off the surface at no cost).

Cheaper to buy what is in the market here on earth.

  5. I'm sure there must be some, but it wouldn't be cost effective to go mine it. Transportation cost would make it a losing proposition.

  6. whoa, i've never thought about that! i've always wondered if it has layers like the earth, you know like a core and all.... ah, sweet mysteries.

  7. The moon is mostly made of lighter elements than what the Earth has.  It doesn't have any of the heavy elements, such as gold.

  8. Who Owns the Moon? The Case for Lunar Property Rights

"It's like finding gold on the moon. Unless you can figure out an economical way to get there, mine it, and get it back to Earth... it's useless to you. Talking about property rights on the moon at this point is laughable." You can always spot a fool because they always say something foolish. What did the miners do in california when they found gold but the only way to ship it east was to sail by ocean around south america, or try and transport it by wagons across country. They took the gold and stuck it in an iron box, and hung a sign outside BANK That is the same thing they will do on the moon, why bring the gold back when you can just still it in the bank and use electronic banking to conduct transactions. the value of a mine is not how much gold you have dug out, but how much gold is still in the ground. The more gold in the ground, the more valuable the mine. SSo all you have to do is OWN the land AND the mineral rights and you have instant wealth creation.

  9. Could be. I'm sure there are meteors that have contained gold and hit the moon....its quite possible.

  10. I am sure that there is.  However the question you really want to know is how much?  and where is it?
