I am moving into a new place and am planning on purchasing a dryer (Whirlpool Duet Sport). I have the option for a gas hook-up and was wondering if there is any advantage than perhaps some cost savings with gas? At least, that's what has been said on consumer reports but not sure how much in the long run and if there are any other cons to getting the gas dryer (other than a slightly higher upfront cost).

  1. A gas dryer is going to be much cheaper on your monthly power bill than the electric version.  Electric dryers are one of the biggest energy consuming household appliances.  Since gas will be heating the clothes to speed up the drying process, the only electricity used will be to actually spin the machine; the equivalent of running a house fan.

  2. You need to contact your utility company to see which is cheaper per BTU of heat; they will know to the penny. A gas dryer will free up some electrical power and breaker space in your electric panel if you have run out of capacity.

  3. nope electric is cheaper and more environmentally friendly...not the best but better than gas

  4. There is no difference in efficiency of dryers these days they both will be expensive to run, to save on drying cost add a couple of dry towels to your laundry this will help dry your laundry faster, or simply hang your washing on a clothesline instead and fore go the dryer when possible to help save on energy cost Also to help save some money when drying you should keep the dryer filter clean and free of lint, it would also help if you clean the dryer and vent of lint frequently this helps the dryer to dry more efficiently Good Luck !
