I have an 89 mustang, it has openings in the dash for 3-1/2 in speakers. However, the previous owner replaced them with standalone tweeters, now I'm wondering, is this a better set up than having 3-1/2 in speakers? The tweeters are starting to crackle ( I installed a new deck that has a higher output than the one the previous owner put in). So either way I'm replacing the dash speakers, should I go with tweeters, or 3-1/2 in speakers?

  1. Depends on what else you have hooked up in your car.  Tweeters are going to give you great highs, if you have subs or good 6x9's it will make the sound really clear.  The 3.5's will most likely give mids to highs.

I would go with tweeters because you aren't going to get much sound out of the 3.5's cause they are so small and you will appreciate the crisp clarity the tweeters offer.

  2. Well i have a 88 Dodge Dynasty and i had Baught some Kicker 3 1/2 Speakers and they were alright. But no i put some Polk audio tweeters and they sound better in my opinion. It all depends on what type of music u listen to. But my opinion i would go with the tweeters

  3. how about both,,, the 3-1/2's and put some tweeters on the front window panel,,,i used 4in. pioneers and memphis tweeters WOW sounds GRRREAT,,,BUT IF YOU have to choose, use a component tweeter set     say memphis,,,
