  2. LCD - Defiently not (although, depending on the quality, their may be hum through the internal speakers)

    CRT - Probably not, colour patches may occur if there is a magnetic field near the set, this is commonly caused by speakers - the internal speakers of TV's/Monitors are normally shielded to prevent the leakage of magnetic interference.

    You will not get any permament damage from testing it, if the colour patches do occur, just try degaussing the set to collaborate it with any magnetic field, this might be a simple setting in the menu of the set, or may involve powering it down overnight, and turning it back on in the morning
