  1. Tiki's Grill & Bar in Waikiki.  It is in a hotel on the second floor and it overlooks the beach...beyond the street.  The food and drinks are excellent.  The food in Honolulu is pricey, but this is not too bad considering you can sit outside and watch the sunset.  Another idea is to buy some food and picnic.  The seafood there is cheap.  Try Costco.  Go to the Aina Moana (Magic Island) Park in Honolulu, very close to Waikiki.  You can sit under a tree and watch the sunset.  There is a shallow beach if you want to swim.  It is beautiful and free!  Normally there is lots of parking at no charge.

  2. There are tons of affordable restaurants that have sunset views on oahu.  Here's the thing though...if you're staying in Waikiki, you're probably not going to find "affordable" right there on the beach, because it's such a heavy tourist area.  Go inland a couple of blocks to Rainbows Drive-In (http://www.yelp.com/biz/rainbow-drive-in... right off of Kapahulu on Kanaina--you'll get good local plate lunches (and extremely casual atmosphere), and at a very low price.  You can also find the same fare at places such as You Hungry (across from the convention center), amongst others.  Just walk to the beach with your food, and you'll be set ;)

If you're looking for affordable, but insist that it's on the water, and a little finer dining then get a little bit out of Waikiki, and just travel along the water towards Waimanalo (past diamond head), or in the opposite direction towards the west.  You'll find places up and down the "coast", but they'll be much more affordable.  In fact, on the north side of the island (but hey, you asked for a view!), there's Haleiwa Joe's which is in Haleiwa town.  There are restaurants everywhere on Oahu, so you really won't miss them--the point is to just leave the tourist traps behind.

  3. Aloha!  You will find just about anything you want within a couple blocks of Waikiki beach.  It's fun to bring a picnic along, and enjoy it watching the sun set.  Take lots of photos, since it goes very quickly.  You can get food to go at the International Marketplace, and walk back .  Shorebird buffet for breakfast will keep you full until dinner.

    Have fun!

  4. To be honest, there are not too many affordable restaurants in Hawaii.  I lived in Honolulu for two years and my favorite place was Duke's.  It is right on the beach, has lit tiki torches at sunset and they have great food.  The prices are about $17 and up unless you get the salad bar.  Even if you just go for drinks and appetizers, it is worth the trip.  It is located right across from the International Marketplace in Waikiki.

P.S.  There is always a long line to get in so get there early.

  5. Try having a drink (even a non-alcoholic one if you like...I recommend the Lemonence) at the Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Their drinks are pricey but the view and setting are unparallelled! There is always live music and hula in the evenings, too. They serve pupus (appetizers) there, so you can fill up if you want...or just have a drink and enjoy the sunset, then go somewhere cheaper for dinner.

  6. The Shorebird Restaurant is right on the beach at Waikiki.

Or, go to one of the many fast food restaurants and take a picnic to any beach and watch the sunset.
