Question:

Is there any alternate fantasy football systems that deal with bye weeks better than traditional FF?

I love fantasy football, but despise bye weeks. I think that all they do is add more to the element of luck (and I won my league last year). I'd love to find a way to play that works around the bye weeks somehow. Does anyone have any ideas?

  1. We allow limited numbers of pick-ups off the waiver wire.  Each move is important that way.  The guys that sit on the computer everyday don't have as much of an advantage that way.

  2. Personally, I enjoy the challenge presented by having to manage my roster to handle the bye weeks. I don't understand what you mean by adding to the element of luck so I won't comment except to say that there is some luck involved when a guy has an unexpected breakout season or bad luck when an injury occurs.

So, good luck and have fun.

  3. I understand what you mean about bye weeks. It seems like they help those who are more active with free agency pickups. Every year, someone who drafted terribly grabs some people for their bye weeks that end up completely changing the season. Unfortunately, the NFL has implemented the Bye week, so you're stuck dealing with it in FF.

The one, minor, alternative is a point league though. It basically is determined by total points at the end of the season, as opposed to the traditional weekly battles. You only earn points for players that you start that week, but it rewards those who have players that have break out games with mediocre numbers (aka Lee Evans).

Personally, I don't like these leagues because it takes all the fun out of each week. Traditional FF is more like real football, any team can win on any Sunday.
