Mega hydro power projects causes sinking of large area (forest, agriculture land, villages, etc.) which results into depletion of our ecosystem, can't we go for any other form of energy which is clean and still doesn't affect the environment on the large scale and can be implemented worldwide easily.

  1. Nuclear power can provide all the power you need 24/7/365 w/o producing any ghg's.

  2. Microhydropower plants. no big lakes needed

runs on small lakes from 1 to 10 acres each

can be built in areas where large lakes can not be built.

can be built where earthquakes would not allow big dams to be built.

can be built up stream of megahydropower plants.

100eds of small ponds in the mountains would be a boon to the environment.

THE POWER COMPANIES NEVER LIKED THE MICRO PLANTS AS IT TOOK TO MANY PEOPLE TO RUN THEM.

today with computers and fibre optics 1 man can run 30 to 40 micro power plants. over a 30 to 50 sq mile area.

  3. Nuclear power works for me if hydro is not acceptable but, if hydro is an option, I'd go for it every time.  Changing an ecosystem is not really depleting it, is it?

  4. geothermal powerplant (provided your location is on the ring of fire belt)....

  5. If hydro projects are done correctly, they don't always negatively affect the surrounding environment like you say.  I think they have a lot of those kinds of problems in China, where they have shown that they just don't give a darn about the environment.

Hydro power is as green as they come, no toxic emissions whatsoever!  However, I believe in the US we've basically dammed up all the rivers to take advantage of this form of energy.
