Is there any alternative for sand used in mortar for construction?

demand of sand for construction purposes is increasing everyday, so it is necessary to find an alternate to be used for construction

According to many theories in construction technology. River sand is the only usable material as sand in construction. But some research is going along to find the good alternative for sand. Artificial sand i.e gravel sand its a by-product from crushing granites and gravels its good alternative for sand but it is still under research not in conclusion. Sea sand is not a good alternative because sea sand consists of uniform size of gravel, it will failure in adhesion and also it will not possess the property of sand according to sieve analysis test.
