I'm taking human physiology this upcoming semester. I have a choice whether to pick genetics or humany physiology and most students recommend human physiology. I was wondering is there any biochemistry or molecular biology involve in human physiology. Also is there any chemistry stuff in it?

  1. you   need to remember your chemistry and biology concepts and names, there are many biochemicals names  you 'll learn.

it is more like general biology  that focuses on  the function of the human systems, you need to know some basic chemistry.

but the not  to many  biochemical reactions that you need to know, write or calculated.

  2. Biochemistry is a major part of physiology.  Biochemistry is the field of chemistry which studies the chemistry that occurs within living systems.  Physiology is the study of the function of an organism, and many functions are biochemical in nature.  Examples include chemical digestion, coordinated immune response, the electron transport chain in photosynthesis and cellular respiration, and the breaking down and building up of biomolecules like fats.  It's not really a mix of two separate disciplines, but rather a branch of chemistry that limits itself to what's going on in living organisms.  Think of it like doing oceanic chemistry or weather chemistry, it is defined by the environment it studies.  Of course, to do biochemistry one needs to have considerable knowledge of "pure biology" subjects like cell bio and evolution.

The level of chemistry that you do in a physiology class will probably be considerably less than what you would do in a biochem class.  You might find that a lot of the chemistry is descriptive, and simply being familiar with basic concepts, terms and vocabulary like common polyatomic ions is all you need.  That depends on the instructor and the aim of the particular physiology class.

Biochemistry might be more immediately useful in a physiology class, but if you don't like chemistry, I recommend taking the genetics class.  If you don't like either subject but know you struggle with or don't like chemistry, I would still recommend the genetics class.  A subject you like more is almost always easier, and at least more enjoyable.

  3. Uh, yes.  A lot.

  4. Physiology is the study of why the human anatomy can do the things it does. This means cells, biochemistry and soooo much biology. If you didn't like bio/chem, you will hate physiology. if you liked medelian biology, take genetics. Good luck.
