Question:

Is there any category on this site...?

free of trolls and drama? I post this question in here because I thought I would find some quietness when I first came to this place and now, after just a month or so, I'm tired already of the stories I know about users in here or of the thumbs down I see all around me...

and btw, why would someone waste their time thumbing down answers when this is just a game and our points mean nothing whatsoever except in here?

is there any category (even if they call it "Society and culture > Heaven > No losers") where people are more gentle and more intelligent?

  1. Already searching for Utopia in this Yahoo World,  Phoenix???

Accept this...this Virtual World is as real as it could be...to our Real World...except you cannot get the offenders arrested.

  2. I always thought the REAL gentle and intelligent people are those that understand and accept the fact that everyone is different and therefore PAY NO MIND to "trolls" and "drama".

"Society and culture > Heaven > No losers" - This must mean you're a "winner".  Well, haven't you, yourself, just "lost", given that you have just exposed your discontent toward such people that you deem, "losers".

I THOUGHT you were "gentle and intelligent".  Now I'm just disappointed at what I'm seeing.

There should be a "Society and Culture > Mature" category, for those that are truly mature enough to ignore the immature.

  3. I waste my time thumbs upping answers with the believe it helps to generate a positive atmosphere for all.So I reckon there are others who think the opposite. We could have a separate sight, only top contributing level sevens allowed, it would be painfully boring. There is always someone on here for the first time, they stretch their new thumbs & play with every button at their command just to test it. Then yes there is a percentage of users that one would credit with more intelligence then to stop to petty clever stalker troll like activates.

It does reflect life, but with many cultures & a large margin for possible misunderstanding.

The more questions you ask the more you stick your neck out on the chopping block. Thanks for that :)

  4. Be patient, Phoenix, there are those that just like to be nasty for the thrill of it.  This category is one of the best on y/a.  The people here are usually gentle, with those exceptions, but when you attack and accuse, like you

just did, it provokes a defensive response.  It's a game just like you said, don't take it so seriously, we're just having fun.  Come join us!

  5. No, there's no category like that -and if you tried to create one people would move in like builders to an enchanting underdeveloped island.  Why someone would waste their time like that, I don't know -but I have seen questions where only my answer and those of my contacts have been given thumbs down (even though none of them was rude or unresponsive to the question).

As you said, this is just a game -so just accept that a certain amount of drama is part of it.

  6. For starters -it's a noble thought.

I'm not interpreting your concern or questions relative to whether you meant to come across as a "winner" or "loser" because, in my read of your post, it seems you are simply seeking a venue for dialogue where the dance is more cerebral and less of infantile, jerky movements.

Truth be told, I agree with you ... however, I also realize the impracticality of Y/A or any other such public DBoard fostering such a sanctuary without appearing discriminatory on one level or another ... and, as most of us know, there are no laws to prevent stupidity from exercising his/her rights also.

And, eventually, these "types" would spend inordinate amounts of time and energy wanting "in" on the sanctuary anyway ... so let's just continue to allow them in -and ignore them!

However, because of their ubiquitous presence on DBoards (although I believe the concept of "philosophy" wards off many wannabes), I try my best to create workarounds to the system (please know that I absolutely agree about the "thumbs up, thumbs down" ridiculousness --Y/A might as well provide some virtual Coliseum with ersatz Christians and Lions for the bored and boring to play with).

I don't ever give a thumbs down (Hey, Y/A moderators, why not put your heads together and seriously consider getting rid of the "thumbs down" option -it truly does not serve any viable purpose and it does not add any value to the DBoard) and only give a thumbs up for replies that are genuine -and yes, thoughtful.  I look for originality and the road-less-traveled approach.

Next, I've taken to reaching out to those who truly get my attention by their reflection, introspection, and sincerity shown in their reply to a question. I do that by simply emailing them (when it is possible via their preferences) and "engaging the dialogue" from there.

I'm not looking for "rightness" but instead cherish reading the provocative, the unique, the response that seems to indicate the respondents at least i) read and understaood the question, ii) responded to the question (as opposed to just responding), and iii) provided something of value to consider the question [and answers] from a different perspective.

Maybe it's time to simply -and consistently- ignore the trolls and drama queens/kings.  Let's give it a shot ....

  7. Unfortunately, I have learned from my time on here there is no category on YA without trolls and drama. I do believe the philosophy section is one of the best, but still contains those bad apples that can leave a sour taste in the mouth.

I was just thinking about the thumbs down the other day. It is quite irritating and frustrating when I see a question/answer post and it is clear someone just came along to give numerous thumbs down. It takes away from the whole point of a thumbs down. I only give a thumbs down when I see someone is quite rude in their answer or something along that lines. I never give thumbs down to those that are opposite in my view... is the basis not perspective and learning?

  8. There are no losers, only potential Sons of God.

  9. No, because there are always people on here just because they are bored. I usually thumbs down if the answer is totally wrong or inappropriate, or if it is spam.

  10. No, but you could try to start one.  However, we losers would quickly infiltrate and make the point moot.

But you have to look at the bright side.  The best part about our moronic presence is that it boosts your ego.  If it wasn't for losers like us then you'd never be aware of how really smart, super-cool and sophisticated you are.

I mean, if we were all as drama free and amazing as you, then you would just be ordinary and no one would know how gifted you are.

  11. I truly believe trolls and drama are everywhere in here.

the only solution is to ignore them.
