BT do not install landlines, Openreach do that.

Openreach install / maintain landlines for all the Service Providers that use the PSTN network.

Yes, I have mine from Virgin Media, along with tv and broadband (which is very good, by the way--no problems ever).  But: be aware that a lot of services such as talktalk, etc, and other cheap phone and internet plans require a BT line, so you are limiting your choice in these things.
