Is there any conversion exams for environmental management professionals who want to work in the US?

I worked with the EPA in another country and want to find out how easy or otherwise it is to get a job in the US with this background.

  1. A career in the US would depend on your area of expertise and knowledge of US regulations.

    For instance, if your specialty were assessment and remediation, the principles used would be more or less the same regardless of where you practice.

    But, if you worked in the area of compliance or enforcement, then you would need a thorough knowledge of the regulations.

    I am not aware of any certifications (unless you are a PE or a PG - either of these would boost your assets).  There are some independent organizations that have classes and experience based certifications:

    The National Registry of Environmental Professionals (NREP) has the Registered Environmental Manager (REM).

    And the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) is administered by another group.  Both of these certifications would be an asset - the CHMM seems more so.
