Yes, bones have been found that support this...BUT, Gigantism, a medical 'abnormality', is said to be responsible for this.

Now if this Gigantism was genetic and free-ranged in that locale, then it would have led to a lot more than just one person having it....thus Gigantapithicus hominid.

Well from what I can ascertain on the “Net” there have been many reports through time all around the World  of  giant skeletons/legends re Giants– Here are just some of them:

Maximinus Thrax Ceaser of Rome 235-238 A.D.  This was an 8' 6" skeleton.



D.  Goliath was about 9 feet + or - a few inches.  I Samuel 17:4 late 11th century.



E. King Og spoken of in Deuteronomy 3:11 whose iron bedstead was approximately 14-feet by 6-feet wide. King Og was at least 12-feet tall, yet some claim up to 18.



F. A 19'6" human skeleton found in 1577 A.D. under an overturned oak tree in the Canton of Lucerne.



G. 23-foot tall skeleton found in 1456 A.D. beside a river in Valence, France.



H. A 25' 6 " skeleton found in 1613 A.D. near the castle of Chaumont in France. This was claimed to be a nearly complete find.



Almost beyond comprehension or believability was the find of the two separate 36-foot human remains uncovered by Carthaginians somewhere between 200-600 B.C.



There are lots of myths and legends about giants and even the Bible has quite a few references to giants (Goliath for instance).  There are even conspiracy theories that evidence of  ancient giants has been covered up (like there are tales out there of places like the Smithsonian Institute (and even the Vatican) hiding huge human skeletons etc. (Don’t know why??).  Now about absolute proof that giants existed (that they even dwelt there in America even before the “natives” present there when the whites arrived???).   I for one believe that with “legends” there would usually be “some” truth in them – like people may have witnessed something and then talked about it and the story goes through the generations and maybe gets a bit exaggerated but overall there is something in it in my opinion.     Like the Australian aborigines believed there were “others” there before them and giant types too some of them.  Also my logic tells me if there can be pygmies then why not giants???? PROOF OF AUSTRALIAN GIANTS:

In old river gravels near Bathurst, NSW, huge stone artifacts -- clubs, pounders, adzes, chisels, knives and hand axes -- all of tremendous weight, lie scattered over a wide area. These weigh anything from 8, 10, 15, to 21 and 25 pounds, implements which only men of tremendous proportions could possibly have made and used. Estimates for the actual size of these men range from 10 to 12 feet tall and over, weighing from 500 to 600 lbs. A fossicker searching the Winburndale River north of Bathurst discovered a large quartzitised fossil human molar tooth, far too big for any normal modern man. A similar find was made near Dubbo, N.S.W.

Prospectors working in the Bathurst district in the 1930's frequently reported coming across numerous large human footprints fossilised in shoals of red jasper.

Even more impressive were fossil deposits found by naturalist Rex Gilroy around Bathurst. He excavated from a depth of 6 feet (2 m) below the surface a fossil lower back molar tooth measuring 67 mm. in length by 50mm. x 42 mm. across the crown. If his measurements are correct, the owner would have been at least 25 ft. tall, weighing well over 1,000 lbs!  ( you would want to have strong bones to be this tall!!!)

At Gympie, Queensland, a farmer, Keith Walker, was ploughing his field when he turned up the large fragment of the back portion of a jaw which still possessed the hollow for a missing lower back molar tooth. This is now in Rex GiIroy's possession. The owner of the tooth would have stood at 10 feet tall.

In the Megalong Valley in the Blue Mountains NSW, a Mr P. Holman found in ironstone protruding from a creek bank the deeply impressed print of a large human-like foot. The print was that of the instep, with all 5 toes clearly shown. This footprint measures 7 inches across the toes. Had the footprint been complete it would have been at least 2 feet (60 cm in length, appropriate to a 12 foot human. However, the largest footprint found on the Blue Mountains must have belonged to a man 20 feet tall!

A set of 3 huge footprints was discovered near Mulgoa, south of Penrith, N.S.W. These prints, each measuring 2 ft long and 7 inches across the toes, are 6 ft. apart, indicating the stride of the 12 ft. giant who left them. These prints were preserved by volcanic lava and ash flows which "occurred millions of years" before man is supposed to have appeared on the Australian continent (if one is to believe the evolutionary theory): Noel Reeves found monstrous footprints near Kempsey, N.S.W. in sandstone beds on the Upper Macleay River. One print shows toe 4 inches (10cm) long and the total toe-span is 10 inches (25cm) - suggesting that the owner of the print may have been 17 feet tall.

It is certain the Aborigines were not the first to reach Australia. Anthropologists maintain mainland Aborigines are in fact quite recent arrivals that ate their precessors who were akin to the New Guinea natives. Aborigine themselves admit in their ancient folklore that this land was inhabited by several groups of men, as well as giants, before they settled here.

Now there seem to be lots of  stories re early settlers in America exploring ancient burial mounds and finding huge skeletons in the “giant” category sometimes mixed in with smaller types and written accounts of these findings too –  Anyway after what I have read I for one believe giants existed and I know very tall people exist today but because of medical problems in growth hormones or whatever.   There is even the idea that “giants” were heavenly “angels” that inhabited the earth and mated with earthlings who in turn gave birth to giants and I can believe that too.   But what you are asking for is evidence.  Well what is wrong with some of these “mentioned” sightings of skeletons and artifacts – I am guessing surely there is proof in some museum of large artifacts or huge teeth??? (conspiracy theory again?) but even without “proof” all those stories must mean something I am sure.  Like some human accounts might be hazy but some of them might be real too (And let’s not forget Yeti and Bigfoot “sightings”???? – sorry shouldn’t have brought these into the equation!!!!):

Skulls were taken from these mounds, the cavities of which were of sufficient capacity to admit the head of an ordinary man, and jaw-bones that might be fitted over the face with equal facility. The bones of the upper and lower extremities were of corresponding size.

Now all of this - who knows? could have been made up but other large skeletons were found in other parts of America too and many Indian legends refer to giant people and why would this be just made-up nonsense?  Hope this helps to answer your question???????

Scientifically, yes. Gigantopithecus did exist but was probably not a hominid. In relation to your biblical reference, no.  Goliath was supposed to be as large as 10 men.  There was another race mentioned in the Bible, however, larger than the average man.  I believe that they were called the Elohim.

Gigantopithecus (note spelling) is an extinct ape distantly related to orangutans. While  males could be 10 feet "tall" they moved much like bears and pandas, quadrupeds for most of the time. Most of the remains are of teeth

Reportedly "Gigantopithecus blacki was 10 feet tall and weighed 1,200 pounds. This is speculative, since it is with some uncertainty that one reconstructs such a massive creature from a few jaw bones and teeth, however many. The creature's extinction is dated to 300-400,000 years ago. It's range was SE Asia and may have had contact with Homo Erectus. It's extinction may have been due to completion with animals such as the panda.

Those that focus on "Bigfoot, Yeti Sasquach" sighting have proposed this ape as still living and the source of the sightings. There are a number of difficulties with this premise: Lack of fresh remains, no remains dated after 400,000 years ago and no remains at all in the Americas. Homo Erectus' furthers range in Asia was to northern China. It's very likely Gigantopithecus got no further.

Kkarr is somewhat incorrect as to the size of Goliath in the Bible and the name of Elohim, which is the Hebrew word for God.

Goliath was around 9-10 feet tall (a cubit is roughly 18 inches and a span is roughly 4-5 inches) and came from a people known as Philistines. There are other references to giants in the OT known as Rephaim, Ananites and Nephilim.

1 Samuel 17:4And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

King Og in Deut 3:11 is described to have had a bed that was 9 cubits long and 4 cubits wide...around 14 feet by 6 feet.

Dr. Grover Krantz believed that the short wide jaw indicated that it was probably upright and a hominid (now called hominin).  I believe that later studies indicated that it was probably in the orangutan lineage.  Only people associated with bigfoot, which is a big hobby of mine, consider it to be upright.  There is no question though that it has lived until at least a few hundred thousand years ago. All they have found is several hundred teeth and two jaws so not much can actually be determined about it.   Dr Krantz said there were much younger fossils found in Vietnam but I have never seen that verified.
