There would have to be a definition of cracked.  I have seen several houses that probably didn't need any foundation work, but a foundation company sold the owner on spending money.

Now with engineered foundations and people educated about keeping their soil properly watered, I bet the numbers would drastically lower than 25 or even 10 years ago.
