  1. Yeah you need a mod chip, but they usually aren't too hard to find these days (just Google it).

Region locking totally shafts honest users who want to buy a genuine game they can't get in their country (and the manufacturers couldn't care less).

    Trivia:

In Australia, court action by Sony against a mod-chipper backfired badly. Not only did the Federal Government Competition watchdog (the ACCC) step into the fray against Sony saying that region locking was anti-competitive and breached free-trade principles, but in the end the Federal Court ruled that region locking was not worthy of protection under Australian law. Therefore mod-chipping became officially legal under the court decision (in Australia at least)! Sony were left with egg on their face.

The flow on effect of this basically led to DVD player manufacturers making most of their products sold in Australia region-free (though they don't like publicising the fact).

  2. PS2 games are region locked. You can't play an American PS2 game on a UK PS2, unless the console has a mod chip fitted.

  3. US is NTSC region, Europe is PAL region. PS2 is region locked. It can be tricked by installing a modchip (any decent elctronic store will do it). You can unlock regions with SwapMagic disc (no modchip required). Make sure your TV supports NTSC signal.
