  1. Yes, there is a difference.

M118: Bullet is 173-grain match grade full metal jacket boat tail, ogival spitzer tip bullet

Black Hills Match: 175 grain Sierra Match King

M118: Case is NATO milspec (heavy) narrow weight variance marked 'LR'

BH Match: SAAMI spec commercial brass made especially for Black Hills

M118: Powder is bulk lot powder called WC846.

BH Match: Cannister powder IMR 4895 (I have also been told BLC-2, but have not been able to confirm)

M118: Loaded on AmmoLoader automated machines

BH Match: Loaded on Dillon 1050 Supers.

My information is somewhat dated.  Things may have changed.  They are not the same product, but they do perform very similarly.

    Edit:

I told you my info was dated.  I called a buddy. He said that the M118LR also uses the SMK bullet. He also said that Federal (the company who operates the facility under contract) had tweaked the powder charge as well, and they are using lot powders from ATK.  Here is the comparison spec he gave me:

    M118: (M118 Special Ball) 173gr FMJ-BT (2550fps)

    M118LR: (M118LR Special Ball) 175gr HPBT (2580fps)

  2. That's some great info, Falphil, thanks.
