I am planning on adopting a Quaker in a week or two. Are the blue and green different or is their only difference color? Also, since bird live so long, should I just go ahead and go for the blue Quakers (being more expensive)? Thanks!

  1. No difference in the birds other then color and prices as the blue ones run higher dollar then the green ones.

  2. No difference. I have had a few quakers which I handfed from day one. My Bingo died at the age of 14 years  from fatty liver disease which quakers are prone to.  You must be careful of their diets to prevent obesity and for goodness sake stay away from sunflower seed.

Quaker p**p is messy .Be prepared to clean the cage often.I found this to be their only drawback. They are charming lovable birds, easily trained to play games like peek a boo. If you laugh they will repeat their actions.

If money is no object I would go for the blue. They are so pretty.-----Yogi

  3. I have a green quaker and I have had him for almost 3 yrs. now but he has been owned by 3 previous owners.  He easily got attached to me and really doesn't like anyone else.  He picks up on words and sounds very easy.  He has a wide vocabulary.  They are very lovable birds but need A LOT of attention and of course lots of cleaning up behind.

    Good Luck!

  4. the fact that they hav a long life span doesn't mean that they will live for a long time. what if he gets sick and die on you. wht if he has an accident and you eed to put him down. I say just get a green one and learn about them first. I am hand feeding two green ones and they are a handful. I wouldn't spend my money until I had the experience to care for one. From what I know the color is the only difference so try a green one first. later you can get him a buddy a different color.
