  1. Not really

Only difference is the durability of the cable itself, meaning how many times can u bend, rub, and abuse it before it stops working. Other than that, since it's a digital signal, there is absolutely no difference in picture quality between different HDMI cables. Digital means 1 & 0 you either get "something" 1 or "nothing" 0 there is NO in between.

Anyone who tells u otherwise is simply a N00b, as is called in the computer world!

Edit: LOL, some people on here have absolutely NO concept of what a digital signal consists of or how it's being used by the electronic devices. But then again, that's how Monster manages to charge $100 for $10 cable.

  2. There ARE a few differences you should be aware of:

    - They have found that a HDMI cable longer than about 15 feet starts to have data errors.  Making the cable with thicker inner gauge wires seems to solve the problem.

    - There is a 'certification' process that some companies can spend something like fifteen thousand dollars and have their cables tested.  There are many un-tested cables that work just fine and dont have the higher price to help pay for the testing.

As others have said - the digital signals can suffer a LOT of damage, but still appear like perfect transmission.

My favorite place for good cables is www.bluejeanscables.com  My long cable ($38) to feed my TV is one of their "Belden" cables (Belden is not sold to consumers but to TV studios and production houses. BlueJeans uses Belden wires).  I also bought one of their cheeper cables and could not tell a difference.

For short cables: www.monoprice.com  I bought a bunch of 1-3 ft cables to feed my HDMI switch and these thinner cables work well in tighter spaces to link things together.

  3. sure there is...... the gage of the wire used in the cables themselves and the type of contacts used

  4. Yes, quality. You get what you pay for.

  5. Of course there is anyone who tells you otherwise really doesn't have a clue. I can't believe I still hear that 1s and 0s nonsense. 1s and 0s don't pass through a cable and as if it's that simple. If someone plays the guitar and you're hearing 1s and 0s what do you hear when someone plays the guitar poorly? 2s and 3s?

  6. there was a recent test in one of the magazines and they found no difference at all except price.

  7. Monster cables are a complete waste of money.  You cannot tell any difference in the picture quality using a $10 or a $100 hdmi cable.

  8. No. Digital in equals digital out.

  9. I read a website that proved that there's no difference.  The signal will travel through aluminum foil if you rig it right.  Just get something practical.

  10. Yes different hdmi cables have different transmission speeds.  Get an ultra high hdmi cable if you can.  And it also depends on your tv.  And stick with monster cables.

  11. nope
