Question:

Is there any difference between powder and concentrate baby formula's?

Our daughter is currently on Similac Sensitive powder formula and we recently came across a great deal on a ton of the Similac Sensitive "concentrate" formula. We would like to switch her to this but didn't know if it would be a good or bad thing. Any difference? We've heard that some say they have less gas etc. Any of you have any advantages or disadvantages (outside the obvious) and why?

Thanks in advance...

  1. I use Similac Advanced both powdered and concentrated and noticed NO difference. I used to only use powdered and my doctor told me to try the concentrated because my 2 month old was constipated and after a feeding of the concentrated she had a normal p**p. She has never had any tummy aches. It is also so much more convenient to use the concentrated while traveling or outside your home.

Try buying a bottle of the concentrated and try it and if you notice no difference than buy the amount you have a good deal for.

  2. BPA is present in formula cans.  Concentrated formula cans have the highest concentration of BPA while most powdered formulas have substantially lower amounts of BPA in their cans.

  3. I had my son on the Liquid Concentrate formula and it made him constipated for some reason. We started out on Liquid. I know I was mixing it right too. I switched him to formula powder and never had a problem after that. He had a bit of more gas though with formula, but I'd rather give him that baby gas reliever than have him scrunched up in pain when he couldnt poo. Good luck.

  4. The only thing I can think of is that one is sterile & one is not!

advantage of powder is you can bring it anywhere and make what you need with no waste.

disadvantage you have to pre-boil water unless your water is safe to drink from tap with very little floride

advantage of concentrate is that it's already mixed just pour & serve!

disadvantage is hard to travel with

    here's an answer for you

  6. As long as its the same type the form of it doesnt matter. I like powder as you dont have to keep it cold if you go someplace. Just make what you need. Go for it.

  7. no i haven't noticed any difference between the 2.

ready to feed is more expensive and you have to keep it refrigerated after it's opened, so we rarely have used it.

if it's the exact same kind of formula just in liquid form it should be fine to use.
