Is there any difference between the data running through RCA wires, headphone jack wires, and speaker wires?

could i theoretically hook up a speaker to rca cables or some other combination?

  1. Well, it's not "data" in the sense of digital audio. These signals are all analog.

    The difference is that the signal level carried over interconnects with RCA plugs is at "line level." This means the signal has not yet been amplified to the level required by speakers. You cannot drive speakers with this signal unless the speakers themselves have built-in amplification.

  3. Sure ... speakers originally used rca jacks to attach to stereos. Now RCA wire has two wires inside .. speaker wire has two wires side by side and headphone jack wire usually has three wires .... one common and one for left and one for right signal. They are interchangable if you are careful.
