  1. Tree resins are viscous substances ( solid or semisolid ) of plant origin ( hydrocarbon secretion ), such as copal and amber. They contain terpenes, sesquiterpenes, resin acids etc.

Propolis a resinous mixture that bees collect from tree buds, sap flows, or other botanical sources. It is used as a sealant for unwanted open spaces in the hive.

Its composition varies with the plants the bees visit, season, bee species and geographic location. It contains up to 50 different ingredients as balsams, waxes, essential oils, pollen, flavonoids etc. etc.

Its immunomodulatory effects and other properties are used in medicine.

The origin of both are plants.

Resin is excreted to close wounds, propolis is used to close spaces in the hive.

But propolis is modified by bees.

    Compositions differ
