  1. Earth is very specifically *our* local world.  World is just another name for a planet or for nature (on earth or elsewhere)

  2. I think there is. Although they are synonyms, they are overlapping synonyms (i don't know how you call it in English) and they both have meanings that can't be covered by the other (like "earth" meaning "soil", or "world"  meaning "world of ancient Greece" ). I think that the word world has more wider aspect of meanings than earth, and it is used to describe a particular sphere of egzistence or interest (like world is often used to describe our universe, or dimension, or talk about third world countries although they share the same planet with "1st world countries"). The earth is more geographical word.

  3. I think when it is referenced as "The World", it regards not only the geographical Earth but the cultures and people that inhabit it. When the term "Earth" is used, it has a more geographical and geological feel.

  4. world is a planet earth but associated with us people living in it..

while earth just pertains to a planet where existence of life is possible.
