  1. call in some one who is qualified to carry out that kind of task it would not cost a lot and you and your neighbours would feel safe it had been done rite so would the insurance company if you needed to claim.

only trying to keep you safe:)

  2. are u in the uk and what wire goes where, 2 way switches are wired with twin and earth + 3 core and earth. all depends on how supply is getting to switch, plus a strapper could of been used to make 2nd switch live in 2 gang switch, lots of ways of wiring it so need more detail. DO not go on above answers as they wrong. get a spark in will not cost much

  3. If you're talking about a 3-way switch installation (two switches controlling one fixture), you will need to make sure the new switch is a 3-way unit.

Refer to this page, for the actual diagrams:

  4. What you probably have is an old 4 way switch(used if more than 2 switches controll something) they have 4 terminals.A 3way switch only has 3 terminals (2 black one red(traveler)) Buy a 4way switch.

  5. Put the feed or common wire to the top and the other two wires which are called the strappers to the bottom, the top single connection will be marked 1 or L1  and the bottom two may be marked L1-L2 or 2 and 3. Good luck and do make sure that the installation is safely isolated (made dead before you work).
