  1. tests have proven that in some weather conditions having abs actually increases your stopping distance. the condition that abs is best on is ice or snow covered road conditions. if your brakes release even for fractions of a second that is time you actually have no brake being applied.

  2. take it to an inspector

  3. Anti-lock brakes work. They have saved me.

Were they fail is generally older drivers taught to pump brakes in an emergency.  If they fail is is generally a driver not understanding a computer is doing the pumping for them.

  4. Sure there is, car/ truck manufactures would not add the expense, build time, and extra warranty claims if abs was not safer. No human can control brakes like a computer can. abs tries it's best not to skid the tires, because once ur tires skid ur steering is gone and the vehicle takes longer to stop

  5. Yes, !  they are a danger under some circumstances, such as on gravel or snow, or loose surfaces, where normal brakes cause a build up of material, under the wheels, that aids in the braking effect, ABS prevents this happening, and the braking distances increase, that is why the commonest form of braking for ABS, is the "switchable" type ( you can turn it off in snow, or on a bad, (loose), surface...

Please, for heavens sake, do not listen, to those who say it is good for these conditions, it is NOT, check it first, with the A.A, or R.A.C., or any motoring organisation, or get a book on advanced driving, take no one's word, for this , you may regret it....and some of the answers here, are simply not accurate....

  6. Try these sites............

  7. They have always worked for me - and besides, I get a discount on my auto insurance for having them  :-)
