Question:

Is there any explanation for why salat is so short in duration?

In other religions, prayer and liturgy goes for a long duration- sometimes up to several hours. In my view this is quite tiring and impractical.

I think Islam's good in how it keeps salat short. Is there any reason why it's so short? I heard some people even do 'power salat' in just 3 minutes :)

  1. It doesn't have to be short. You can make it as-long or as short as you want. It's up to you. I don't think it's short cause look at "Taraweeh" In Ramadan it's very long prayer.

    Peace

  2. no, it can be both short and long in duration, Muhammad (saw) led his companions in very long duration prayers finishing Surat Al-Baqara, Aal-Imran, Al-Nisaa' etc..

  3. Allah created Human beings , So he know what we can .....

  4. God created us

    and he certainly knows

    what's better for us

    well but altarawih is optional

  5. We do it five times a day every day...

  6. It's like a break in your day. 5 breaks a day. That's WAY better than praying non stop and then working non stop. Allah (SWT) gives humans breaks to carry on with normal life. If prayer lasted hours, how would we attend to the other tasks Allah (SWT) has set us, like taking care of the poor or other such things?

And, I'm guessing Tarawih Ramadan prayer is so long because it only happens in one month, and most people spend their time devoted to Allah (SWT) and since they don't eat during the day, or have s*x or anything, there are no distractions and they can pray a long time. Whereas in the other months people have more priorities.
