Is there any external verification to McCain's claim about staying longer in POW camp?

All I hear about is from his own story. Given what we have heard from others about the North Vietnamese captors, does it seem really likely that they would listen to McCain's request and not release him whenever they felt like it?

  1. the story is true he told.his father being a admiral.if he would have taken the early release.the vietnamese would have just used it for propaganda!

  2. Since I've read interviews with the guy who ran the Hanoi Hilton, I'd have to say yes.  We also have the other men who were in the camp with McCain.  Dislike his politics if you want, but don't try to belittle his service and honor.

  3. i think mccain answered that when he spoke of a code of conduct among prisoners, longest held, goes first.

  4. I would believe McCain over any doubters who have absolutely no proof otherwise. His story was first told about 40 years ago and wasn't made up for his current run for office.
