I had a licensed version of Matlab, which has gone corrupt and I can't access the software immediately. Is there any alternate to it, which can be easily found?

  1.  MATLAB is the ultimate tool for numerical simulations and as such finding an alternative which can match its powerful code and ease of use is next to impossible. In your case, I think it should be an open ware.

I am hoping that the problem you are facing is not too computationally complicated.

Then there is the matter of the interface being similar to MATLAB so that you can quickly adjust to it and the commands.

Keeping these things into consideration, I think your best alternative will be to use Scilab.

For one, the syntax of Scilab is similar to that of Matlab and has a large function diary.  The compatibility of Scilab with Matlab will however be a problem for you at a later stage.

  2.

There is simply no alternate to Matlab, period. However, in case, you want use an alternate for a small period of time, make sure that it is compatible to Matlab, otherwise there can be multiple integration and compatibility problems and you might have to do the whole calculation or simulation again. In this regard, Octave and Freemat are the best options in my personal opinion. Some people might say that Scilab is also a good option, but I have in the past faced numerous compatibility issues and would certainly not recommend it, especially if your problem is simplistic.

Here you should consider that both the software have a similar syntax as that of Matlab and have an inherent capability of running m-files. For people using Windows operating system, Freemat should be the go to option while Octave, which in comparison to Freemat has way more functions, is ideal for Lynx users.
