Question:

Is there any flooding or problems on I-10 from hurricane Gustav?

I am making an overnight road trip from Houston, Texas to Fort Walton, FL (near Pensacola) and will be taking I-10 almost the whole way there. I don't know if I will run into any flooding, and if so I want to plan my way around it before I go. I can't seem to find any resources to tell me up-to-date flood information. If anyone knows, please tell me, along with an easy alternate route. Or, if you know of some kind of website that is good for this sort of thing, tell me. Thanks!

  1. There was some flooding, but it may be cleared.  you will have to check to see if the area you plan to travel is under a curfew, because the I-10 is being blocked for some cities that are under curfew do to being unable to have the citizens return .  The main problems are not having electricity, water, sewerage, police personnel, etc... available.  They can not open these areas safely until the basics are in place.

I would suggest that you get a map, in case you are detoured, so that you do not get lost.

The state police for each state should be able to give you an indication of what would be your best route.

If you are going today, you are going to run into plenty of traffic from people returning to their homes in certain areas.  Make sure that you fill up before you leave, because you may be sitting in traffic awhile.
