  1. I would stay with norton 360

  2. Norton is pretty lame in my opinion - I've had virus infections go undetected by it enough times to know not to trust it.

AVG is the best free one in my opinion. It has the lightest memory footprint too, which means you can use it on slower systems without noticing it running behind the scenes.

I used AVG free recently to fix the SHeur.CCOH trojan virus that was keeping Internet Explorer from opening and was slowing my system down. Ran the free AVG scanner and it removed the infection and my system is back to smokin fast like it was when I first bought it.

  3. AVG has to be the best

  4. Many people have the mistaken idea that free is not good.

Most malwares are designed to attack popular

antivirus products (like Symantec or Norton), but since free anti-virus

product is much less used, it's capable of fighting the viruses when

    industry leaders fail.

There is a joke on the new version of Norton.

The joke is like this "Norton is the most effective antivirus because it suck away all the system memory from other applications and disable them. No applications and viruses can run as a result. Therefore your system are always free from viruses. However, the only application you can run on your Windows is Norton."

So I would go for the free version rather than the bloated and

    unreliable branded version.

I would suggest that you get Avast Home Edition version 4,

which is free for personal use.

Avast is a very effective and free anti-virus program because it can do

a boot time scan in safe mode and it will remove the entire virus on your PC.

Even those viruses that hide inside the system restore folder.

Windows utilize a restore utility that backs up selected files

automatically to the System volume information /System Restore folder.

This means that an infected file could be stored there as a backup file,

and most anti-virus programs will be unable to delete these files. You

must disable the System Restore Utility to remove the infected files

from the folder if you use another brand of anti-virus. However, you do

not need to do so if you use Avast to do a boot up scan in safe mode.

    Hope it helps!

  13. It doesn't take much to be better than Norton 360, it's a very poor AV.

A very good, free anti-virus available to download is AVG 8 Anti-virus:

    http://www.free.grisoft.com

And for any spyware problems, get SpyBot - Search and Destroy:

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirro...

Also, for protecting your personal info and files, use Ad-Aware 2008 Free Edition:

    http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_fr...

All of them are free, as powerful as paid programs, like Norton and McAfee, and don't use up as many resources.

Just boot into Safe Mode (Press F8 when turning on the computer) and run full scans.

    Hope that helps.
