  1. There are many. Here are two big ones.

    http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bi...

    http://vitals.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ca/d...

    http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/f...

    has some old ones. Set the "Event" to "Death".

    You can google

    "Death index" {state}

    or

    "Death Records" {state}

    where {state} is the state you are interested in. Use the quotation marks, too.

    Note these are indexes, not the records themselves. They will have name, date, place. The California one has maiden name for some of the women and MMN for some of the men and women.

    Your e-mail is blocked so I couldn't send you this. I hope you read your question again.

    West Virginia has a slew of records on-line:

    Given your name and your syntax, I thought it possible you were from there.

  2. Yes but not death certificates. Look up the Siocial Security Death Index. It goes from 1933 forward of people who were assigned a social security number.  This listing is free online on several sites. You can also have them look up the application and they will send you a copy, but that is not free.

  3. Are there; not IS there.  No.  Death certificates cost you money.
