Is there any free software which scans e-mail for viruses ? I have Avira Antivir Personal Free version and Spybot Search & Destroy. But it doesn't scan e-mails!

Is there any free software which scans just e-mail for viruses, spyware, trojans, etc ??

  1. go to http://www.snapfiles.com and search for "avast". Avast scan anything! onaccess,email,Peer-to-Peer,IM,etc. It's the best out there!

  2. it scans emails if you have a client

    example free client: Mozilla Thunderbird

  3. If you are experiencing a malware problem you can try out a tech support site like http://geekpolice.net

I recommend that site because it is small and provides very very fast support.

  4. Hello,

An eMail scanner is not useful.

If AntiVir Guard (= real time protection) is on and you click on a infected eMail, AntiVir Guard will detect the infected file in real time (before the infection).

Else, get A.V.G. 8.0 Free Edition.

    Bye

  6. I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I have just upgraded to AVG free 8.0 and all seems good so far. Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

  7. AVG free has that function and works well

  8. All decent anti viruses (well, except for Clamwin which is an on-demand scanner) have email scanners that scan your email client's inbox.

They are not capable of scanning your webmail. In other words, Gmail, Live Hotmail and Yahoo are out of the question. Antiviruses only scan email to go into your computer via offline email clients such as Outlook, Thunderbird etc.

Your webmail usually already has an integrated scanner. For example, Live Hotmail uses Trend Micro's scanner.
