Probably a little, just because it's near enough cities (ie,Houston) that are known for drug transport, etc. I put a link in that says a little more (FYI Alex is in Central Louisiana) about this. But I doubt it's like the gang activity in Houston, LA, etc. It does have it's share of crime, but I don't think it's gang related so much.

I live in New Orleans and I never hear about murders or anything lawless going on in Alexandria. I think you'll be fine.
