I like the anti-spyware blocker in Windows Defender the best. It is less complicated to configure.

I use Avast seems to be fine. AVG is on another machine and Windows Defender is OK.I would agree that Avast slows the machine when it updates but it is only for 2-3 minutes .

Decent firewall software, I'm going to say COMODO's firewall. That accompanied by AVG or avast! should be rather sufficient when it comes to free software. I've personally been a user of COMODO for a good while now, and I haven't really had the need for antivirus software.

As for anti-spyware, you can't really go wrong with Spybot - Search & Destroy. It offers an immunization option that attempts to guard you from well known spyware/malware without the need for the program to be running.

i use zone alarm and all i did was just download a keygen for it, but i also use sygate personal firewall. and i have been using them together for almost 2 years so either im really stupid and theres viruses up and down my computer or they work pretty well... lqtms...

to keep my computer clean. in conjunction with the usual virus scanning, i use CCLEANER. its a program that cleans all the c**p you accumulate from from general surfing. its a fast program and scans and deletes within a few seconds. type it into google and hit the first link.

AVG is great but it has very irratating updating stages which can make some computers very slow for a small periord of time.
