  1. The only foam-based projectile weapons I know of are the "nerf" brand "nstrike" and "dart tag" products:

A belt-fed 25-round light support weapon, new for '08, the "Vulcan EBF-25" will soon be available

Highly recommended for ages 9 and under, completely indoor safe will not damage drywall but should be kept away from fragile ornaments and decor.

Eye protection is a must, there are several youtube vids of nerf wars w/o any eyewear that is just wrong.  I have nerf wars with my 8yo and 4yo many times the suction cup ammo have stuck to the face of the goggles, it's a great laugh but just reinforces the need to have it mandated.

Tween ages and higher (depending on the maturity level) can be introduced to Airsoft, which was previously mentioned (quite rudely if I may add :) where plastic (not foam) of various weight is used as the projectile.

    Wikipedia describes it best:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airsoft

"Airsoft is a combat sport similar to paintball in which participants eliminate opponents by hitting them with 6 mm (or occasionally 8 mm) plastic ball bearings launched from airsoft guns. These airsoft guns can be powered by CO2, Green Gas, air that is forced through a nozzle via a manually c0cked spring piston, or mechanical boxes that use motors to pull back and release a spring piston. Participants typically use varying types of weapons designed as replicas of real firearms, tactical gear, and accessories used by military and police organizations. Long popular in Asia, there is now a growing interest in airsoft weapons and events in North America and Europe. Some of the notable manufacturers of airsoft guns include Tokyo Marui, Classic Army, ICS, G&G, G&P, VFC, STAR, Systema, JG, KWA and others."

As a long time owner of .177 airgun pistols & rifles it is refreshing to see working true to life replicas in a venue that has a lower TCO than paintball yet just as enjoyable.

One interesting trend I have noticed as of late, paintball enthusiasts who dislike airsoft have a tendency to  vocalize said dislike with great frequency in many discussion threads, yet airsoft fans rarely reciprocate the practice.  It is an interesting phenomenon that says quite a bit about sportsmanship overall.

    cheers
