Is there any harm in paining my 1-year old's nails?

Is there any harm in paining my 1-year old's nails for her birthday party this weekend?

I dont think so. Little girls love to be little girls. I dont get all these people who think it's such a bad thing to paint your childs nails. It's not like you're putting make up on her!

If you dont have one already get one of those cheap little $5 nail dryers for her that way they'll dry quickly and you dont have to worry about her sticking her fingers in her mouth while they're still wet or anything.

And if she is a hand-chewer then just paint her toenails. =]

If she likes to chew on her fingers you may want to wait and just paint her toes.  If it is just for that day I don't see any harm whatever you decide.

no just watch and make sure she doesnt stick them in her mouth... thats why i couldnt paint my right now... she sticks them in her mouth all the time

I would think it was fine as long as the nail polish is non toxic...kids always have their hands in their mouth and you don't want her scraping the nail polish off and swallowing it

The only thing you have to worry about is the chemicals in the paint if she were to suck on her fingers or put them in her mouth (think of when she is eating cake).   The chemical dibutyl phthalate (DBT) is a binding agent in most nail polishes and has been linked to poisoning, cancer, and infertility when sucked on or ingested.  Opi and Sally Hanson (the cheaper) brands have the highest levels of DBT, and right now, Estee Lauder is the only brand without DBT in it.  I wouldn't do it, but that's because I have a hand sucker (likes to l**k the icing off).

There is 'safe' polish for kids....go to KidsRUs or a good baby company.   Even google "safe fingernail polish" and see what you come up with.

They acually have fingernail polish for babies and toddlers. its made without any toxins or anything incase they stick their fingers in their mouth or suck their fingers or thumb.!!

Not at all.  I use to paint my daughters all the time.  I think I started when she was like 4 months old.  If she sucks her thumb, just dont paint that one.

I don't know why you would want to paint your babies nails. Nail polish is toxic.. It could make her sick if she put her fingers in her mouth, plus its tacky. Just my opinion.

None at all. In fact, you can use the paint to stop her from biting her nails, or sucking on her fingers!
