  1. All colleges offer assistance for students with disabilities. If you have some paperwork that diagnoses your disability, then that is even better. Even so, they may test you to see what specific learning disability you have and then are required by law to provide you with assistance.

There are two laws that cover this situation. One is the Americans with Disabilities ACT and the other is IDEA. To find out more about these laws and how they pertain to your situation, go to the Wright's Law website.

Since you have a high school diploma, you should be able to be admitted to any college, providing that you have the grade point average to get in. If this is not the case, you can take your first two years at a community college.

This is a better idea anyway, in your case. Classes tend to be smaller and there is usually more concern for individuals. They also have disabilities offices.

I came out of high school with a poor grade point average and I did my first two years at a CC. Thank goodness for them because otherwise, I would never have made it.

  2. MisBeh had a good answer.  I'd like to add that community colleges usually have remedial-type courses which will give you a chance to re-do high school level classes or sometimes even below high school level.  You don't get credit for them, but they are very helpful.  I took a math class that covered high school algebra 1 and 2 (you could go even lower if you needed to - they tested you beforehand) before taking college algebra.  When I took college algebra I got a B.  That was amazing because in high school I only took algebra 1 and didn't understand any of it!  Good luck!
