Even up to now, the Japanese Leaders and the Government still continue to be deaf to the abused women's pleas.

Will there be any hope?

So far Japan has refused to give public sincere apologies for them, and refuse to do anything to help these abused women.

I think JAPAN IS GUILTY.

Will there be any hope for the Comfort Women?

  1. You can do two things.  First, stop parading these poor unfortunate lolas for all to see.  You may not know this but people actually do not take kindly to raped women in our society (that is both sad and reprehensible, but its a fact)  For all you know, these unfortunate women had learned to cope with their personal tragedies long ago

; many of them, in fact had married and now have grandchildren of their own.  Do you think their grandchildren feel proud seeing them on TV and exclaim,"that's my lola- she was brutally raped by the Japanese during WWII?"  I remember when a so-called commission came to our place they had to drag women to a public place to make their testimonies and everybody(this is the most disgusting part) had a great day listening to their sad stories.  The members of the commission were even heard cajoling the reticent ones " come, on, accept you were raped by the Japanese, there's big money to be made here!"  Soon, a local lady with not so lily-white past came forward to admit, " I was forced to be the mistress of a Japanese officer and for a time he kept me in the ***mansion."  To which one commission member blurted out, " I see, but you were not a comfort woman- you were a comfortable woman!"  Secondly, you can do much better for these poor women if you do your work rehabilitating them outside the glare of media.  Th perception is some NGO's use the sad plight of the comfort women in media to justify their receiving untold amounts from foreign funding agencies, thus, sustaining their employment.  I remember a TV interview of one of these comfort women from Cebu.  She could be seen giving her testimony in a dispassionate voice while in the background, an woman's voice could be heard translating her words in a lachrymous manner. Many, even women, found the act disgusting.  I am a man, but I consider rape, especially during war as a monstrous crime, the most bestial act a man is capable of; and I agree with you that Japan is doubly guilty, first for perpetrating the rape of untold thousands of mostly Asian women as well as for continually denying their culpability.  Although documentation is important for this cause, could we not do something to disguise the identities of the victims?

  2. 63 years later it seems unlikely.

  3. No.  Sorry.

The Japanese government and culture will not admit they did anything wrong.  The Japanese in Japan are very culturally biased against non-Japanese.  I would say racist but that might seem too harsh a term for some.

The Japanese military was ruthless and brutal during WWII.  It has been said in some Japanese news sources that these women were treated well (allowed to live) and that the war was in the past and it should be best to just let it go.  I think at least the comfort women should be given a very public apology and financial recompense by Japan.  But that won't happen.
